Statement by Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority Chairman Russell Reichelt:

I’d like to acknowledge and celebrate the contribution of Dr Evelyn Scott AO to the Great Barrier Reef and its management.

Dr Scott was a member of the Marine Park Authority board from 1996-2007.

Dr Scott was a widely regarded and respected Elder who was a passionate advocate for the Reef and helped ensure the interests and aspirations of Great Barrier Reef Traditional Owners were considered in all aspects of Marine Park management.

Her boarder contribution — as an Indigenous educator and social justice campaigner — is being remembered and celebrated throughout Australia.
